Where You At Wednesday: 2011 Undrafted Potential NBA Players

Every year, there are tons of players who declare for the NBA draft and then don’t get drafted. They can’t return to college. Some go overseas, some give up, some play in the D-League, some make rosters, there are tons of possibilities. Here’s some of those players from last year.

Scotty Hopson

Undrafted. Last I heard was back in training camp he was trying to make a roster. Can’t find info on where he landed, but it wasn’t an NBA roster. Certainly someone who could have benefited from another year, as the Vols have a decent squad this year (even though they got blown out last night, they have some quality wins).

Jamie Skeen

The Charlotte-bred VCU by way of Wake Forest transfer put the Rams on his back in the tourney and took them to the Final Four, making Shaka Smart a household name. Wasn’t enough for the critics who cite size, injury history, and speed as issues. Currently playing overseas in France.

Jacob Pullen

This dude could flat out fill it up, major buckets. However, he didn’t win over any critics in the middle of his senior season when he stated that if the team ended up in the NIT, he would refuse to play. Currently plays in Italy for Angelico Biella.

Where You At Wednesday : Hits from the Street

Natty P on the submission here. I used to watch “Hits from the Street” all the time on BET in like middle school. I thought that dude was hilarious! But what’s he up to now?

Well, his real name is Al Shearer. He’s actually 39 now, if that makes you feel old. He was also in “How High,” “Glory Road,” “Honey,” and the TV Show “Punk’d” with Ashton Kutcher.

Currently though, he can be found hosting “Played By Fame” on BET.

Where You At Wednesday : Chris Childs

Anyone know what Chris Childs is up to these days? I can’t find any info!

Where You At Wednesday: NEW ACC Basketball Coaches

Jim Larranaga

Old Stomping Ground: George Mason

New Stomping Ground: Miami

Prognosis: Great hire, given circumstances of Frank Haith leaving. Older coach, but good hire.

Mark Turgeon

Old Stomping Ground: Texas A+M

New Stomping Ground: Maryland

Prognosis: Good coach whose job just got a lot more pressure. If I was a Maryland fan, I would have liked to have seen them try for Jay Wright though.

Mark Gottfried

Old Stomping Ground: Color commentary, by way of Alabama

New Stomping Ground: NC State

Prognosis: On the plus side, the team seems to be playing harder and buying in. Plus, Gottfried is a good coach. On the negative side, State fans will probably have him run out of town if he doesn’t go Sweet 16 in the next 3 years.

Where You At Wednesday (Update) – Rashad McCants

 

You know I am a UNC diehard fan. I know you are a diehard Rashad McCants hater, and I’m not going to argue with you on any of your points, except maybe 1.

Rashad McCants is trying to get into training camp with either the Lakers or Clippers in Los Angeles and I’m hoping he does. Not because he was one of my favorite UNC players (he wasn’t…but he was clutch at times), but because I want to see what this guy can really do in the league if he can get his shit together.

 

Where You At Wednesday : Todd Van Poppel

 

So I was talking with Phisharkman about ideas for “Where You At Wednesday” today, and I needed something good. He had a great one I will certainly get to later, but I told him I was going to be cramped for time so needed a one-off. Maybe an athlete or musician. His suggestion: Todd Van Poppel. It was so bad, that I had to do it.

If you are one of the millions who don’t know who Van Poppel is (no disrespect intended, Mr. van Poppel), then here’s a quick briefer: He played for 7 teams from 1991-2004, most of which with the Oakland A’s. His overall record was 40-52 with a 5.58 ERA, and he never won more than 7 games in a season, but was a steady fixture in the 90′s as a pitcher.

What’s he up to now? Well he is an investor in the Denton Outlaws, a Texas Collegiate League baseball team and now enjoys the “simple life” reflecting on his career of fun.

Where You WERE Wednesday : Cast of “Last Man Standing”

Another remixed, reversed, re-did WU@W, because it’s been a while since we did one of those. “Last Man Standing” is the new Tim Allen show. But while you of course recognize Mr. Allen, you may not recognize the reset of the cast. Let’s see what they were up to BEFORE this new show!

Where You At Wednesday : Ruoff and Devendorf

This one goes out to my man Tino, who tries to draft someone ineligible every year in our fantasy college basketball draft. Here are two culprits he tried to draft before. In his defense, it did seem like these two played at their respective schools for about 7 years each for some reason. But the real question, is where are they now?

Alex Ruoff – former WVU

Currently plays professionally in Belgium for Okapi Aalstar

Eric Devendorf – former Syracuse

Spent 2010 in New Zealand playing for the Waikato Pistons and scored 49 in his season debut. Signed  in the ABL (Australian Basketball League) shortly afterwards, then was released. Now plays in Division 2 Group B of the Turkish Professional League for Torku Selcuk Universitesi, scoring 22 in his debut.

Where You At Wednesday : Cast of “Married With Children”

I never really watched this show to be honest. I’ve probably only seen one full episode in my entire life. Seems to be a pretty popular show though, and I know it’s on at like 6:30am every morning in syndication, so that’s gotta count for something, right?

Where You At Wednesday : Torry Holt

Torry Holt, probably a first ballot Hall of Famer and one of the better receivers of all time played his college football at NC State. Recently retired, what’s he up to today?

I’ll tell you what. In addition to making a cameo in the recent “Road to Redemption” video from NC hip hop group The Away Team (can be seen here) , he is also playing in the Cary Men’s Basketball league for Ruckus Pizza. I can personally vouch for this, as The Monster’s team played against him last night. While we lost by 10, it was a close game that our team led actually most of the game. Unlike other NCSU alumni that have been known to play in the league (looking at you, Chucky Brown), Holt was a nice-guy and quite down to earth.
