Wow! The Rat Tail. What can you really say about it? In the early, early 90′s, these were popping up everywhere. It wasn’t even really the trashy white folk rednecks only rocking it. You would see black dudes with those poofy rat tails, hispanics with rat tails, and white kids all over the place with them. I mean, who came up with this idea?
I can’t lie to you, I’m pretty sure I wanted one of these back in the day. Thankfully, my parents disallowed it if I remember correctly. If you are reading this Mom or Dad, THANK YOU.
My best guesstimate is that this trend mainly died out around 1996. High top fades and box tops outlasted it, though they came about around the same time into popularity.
Nowadays, however, you certainly only see them on the type of people you also see on PeopleOfWalMart.com, and sites like that. In fact, I’d say the rat tail is even more grimey than the mullet, wouldn’t you?
I don’t know what else to say except that I didn’t track down where the Rat Tail has gone, because in the end, I don’t want to know. I hope it never comes back. I will now leave you with a prime example of why….
