My Pops sent me this. This is a dope video, and a great song. Why have I not heard of these guys before? And where can The Buttaman pick up some of those outfits? He’s got a date at the Busy Bee this weekend and needs to impress her. Also, is that the Monster’s long lost brother on lead guitar?
“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is hands down, no questions asked, without a doubt my favorite TV show of all time. To say that these were the “5 Best” moments, or even my “5 Favorite” would be impossible. That’s why I went with “5 Classic.” Maybe one day I will get to narrowing down to my personal 5 favorites, but I don’t necessarily think I could. Maybe 5 favorite from one single episode, haha.
Anyways, these are in no particular order, but I do consider them to be classic moments from the show. If you have a personal fave that I may have missed, leave it in the comments and hopefully I can get to it next time. I’m sure this won’t be the last post like this.
HONORABLE MENTION JUST FOR KICKS – THE ORIGINAL FULL THEME SONG
Pretty much everyone (even those who don’t watch the re-runs or own the DVDs) can rap the theme song. However, not nearly as many people know or realize that the original song, and the original theme song to the show includes extra lines that were cut out after only the second episode of the show. Try rapping the above as the video progresses, and you’ll probably get tripped up.
“I put my Walkman on and said, ‘I might as well KICK IT!’”
WILL BIG BALLS ON THE BASKETBALL COURTS
There are so many parts of this clip that I enjoy. For one, it’s the only basketball montage you are going to find that plays MC Hammer in the background. I also love how Will jump-taps the jumpball into the hoop, never mind that that is a blantantly illegal move, the Fresh Prince can do what he wants. The no look elbow shot is also a classic (sidenote: The Monster’s Mom can make that shot about 9 out of 10 times, and often was the only way she could get letters on me in HORSE as a kid. To this day, I have learned how to do a mean backwards free-throw because of that. It’s never come in handy in a game, but I imagine if it ever does, it will be baller).
CARLTON DANCES ON SPEED AT THE PROM
This is from one of the most famous episodes of the Fresh Prince. No doubt when it came out it was billed as “a very special Fresh Prince” for you to “watch with your family.” It’s in the same frame of mind as “No Hope With Dope” or the episode of “Saved by the Bell” where Jesse is “so excited, so-so-so scared.” This clip is classic though because we see Carlton so far out of his element (similar to another clip you are going to see on here further down the page). My favorite part is when he stands on the chair and is just screaming. Hilarious.
JAZZ GETS THROWN OUT OF THE HOUSE
This is a compilation clip here. I couldn’t just pick one time that Jazz gets thrown out of the house, because they are ALL classic. I always wished as a kid, and still now, that Jazz got more shine on the show. The crazy thing about DJ Jazzy Jeff is that his complete lack of acting skills is exactly what made him so great. How he spoke and acted was perfect for his character, and I can see how they made him have a crush on Hilary, because they are perfect character foils (go look that literary term up, bitches). I used to love it when Jazz showed up the first time I saw an episode, because you just knew he was going to get thrown out, but you had no idea how yet. A great example of this is when they have Hilary throw him out instead of Uncle Phil or even G (you can both in the clip above).
“Your mouth is saying ‘Get Out’ but your eyes are saying ‘Get Busy’ ” – hahaha, love that one.
CARLTON GOES GHETTO
This seriously might be my favorite episode of show. Carlton tries to prove to Will that he could make it outside of the Banks family mansion. Will agrees to take him to Jazz’s house. Leaves him there for a bit with his friends, and when he comes back, finds an entirely new Carlton. Now called “C-Note,” Carlton is striaght THUGGIN it, doo-rag and everything.
“YO, how many times I gotta tell you?! Write your questions down, I’ll hook you up later.”
“Aiyo C, Thanks for the tip. I’ma go out and get me some of them Douche Marks.”
“Yeah, my squad gone sell some Gucci bags.”
Also loving the part where he lays down and they put out the mattress for him and place a pillow under his falling head.
I could watch this shit all day.
WILL TEACHES G HOW TO DANCE
Another clip that I would have to strongly consider for my 5 favorite if I ever made that list. If you are a reader of this blog, or a personal friend of mine, you know about my love for Dumb Dancing. Will Smith revolutionized, and possibly created Dumb Dancing, and no one on the planet does it better. I should really let this clip speak for itself.
Anyhow, hope you enjoyed these 5 Classic “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Moments. Now if you will excuse me, I have some new Dumb Dancing moves to perfect.
