Oh No – 3 Dollars (feat MF DOOM)

Following two successful collaborative efforts alongside fellow producer/rapper The Alchemist as the power duo Gangrene -2010’s Gutter Water and 2012’s Vodka & Ayahuasca- and the 2011 gem with The Alchemist as Gangrene & Roc Marciano, the Greneberg EP; The Oxnard, California based beat-smith and emcee Oh No returns for a solo mission.

Oh No (born Michael Jackson; younger brother of Madlib and son of singer Otis Jackson) was granted unprecedented access to the Rudy Ray Moore / Dolemite audio archives and given free rein to slice, dice, chop and sample his way through the classic-yet-absolutely-filthy catalog. He was able to use legendary material from The Human Tornado, Petey Wheatstraw, the Dolemite Soundtrack and more, plus a multitude of previously unreleased and alternate acapellas and instrumentals. The end result is Ohnomite (available on 6-5-2012), a 19 track head-banging extravaganza of sloppy funk, dirty soul, and brainy lyricism, all aimed at one thing- making your head nod and your ass shake. And when you add to that guests spots from the likes of Evidence, Phife Dawg, The Alchemist, Erick Sermon, Rapper Pooh, MED, Guilty Simpson, Roc Marciano, Sticky Fingaz, Chino XL, Roc C, Prozack Turner, Termanology, Frank Nitt and this cut with MF Doom “3 Dollars.”

Sex, Drugs and Video Games” is a free mixtape, but Banner is asking for fans to support “The Movement”.  The goal of “Sex, Drugs & Video Games” is to show the world Urban music is still valuable. And how is he going to do that? Banner needs 2 million of you to download this mixtape for free, then he needs the same 2 million of you to donate at least $1 to the movement; but feel free to donate more, as there is no maximum donation.

And what is “The Movement” you may ask? This movement is to start controlling our own music, movies and content…PERIOD! As David Banner states “We are not simply characters in a video game being controlled by the invisible hand.  Once this donation goal is met, I’m going to shoot a movie that will drop 5-22-2013 and a portion of the donations are also going to charity.  Big shout out to Louie C.K. for the motivation.  Download this mixtape for FREE and make sure to support the movement. Hell, even if you don’t like me, at least support the movement, because that’s what this is all really about.”

You can donate to the movement at http://www.davidbanner.com

Ignite and Imagery “Live at Ziggy’s

The words “live” and “hip hop album” are not often seen next to each other, and this one certainly wasn’t planned. Ignite and Imagery finally got to play Ziggy’s, a hometown venue where they had seen many of their heroes play, and found someone to record the show the same night at sound check. Ignite Mindz was armed with the incredible Roland Fantom keyboard and a piece of shit bass guitar, and Imagery got to play DOCO’s fantastic drum kit. Ignite’s dad even made a surprise appearance with his virtuoso skills on the trumpet. It was the night before Thanksgiving so a ton of old friends were in the building, and the two MC’s hadn’t even gotten very inebriated before the show. It was the perfect night to make an album.

They perform a range of songs from some of their first they ever wrote, to some of their most recent. They perform some songs over Ignite’s beats off of a CD and some while playing their instruments. There aren’t any other hip hop groups that have a guy who can drum while he raps and sings soul, paired up with a producer who can play keyboard and bass guitar while he raps. Aside from the Fallen Anghellz guest appearance and Ignite’s dad’s appearance, it’s just the two of them onstage pouring their damn hearts out for the hometown crowd. Hope you enjoy.

The Music industry has undeniably changed and evolved and artists have been forced to either adapt with it, or go the way of the dinosaur. While the Internet and the proliferation of social media platforms are viable assets for new artists desperately looking for exposure, using those mediums alone is still equivalent to trying to “catch lighting in a bottle.” Billy Danze’s ambitious plans for “RUN” are to create an army of incredible artists from all corners of the globe and to unify and raise awareness for them by creating projects which are loud enough to be heard by the masses; as Billy details “my aim is to get every talented artist a deal.  Support on a globalized scale is all an artist really needs or could ask for. I have contacted all my resources and they in return have done the same.  A vital key to success in this business is alliance; and I personally have a team in every corner of the world. We can build a team of thousands and support each other.”

There is no disputing the artistic contributions Billy Danze has contributed to the culture as a member of M.O.P., yet, while still in its early infancy, his greatest contribution may still lay in front of him as the founder of “RUN,” as he eloquently states “as a fellow artist, these projects will enable me to be a vital cog in a family of worthy artists that simply need a platform and a voice and to oversee that lends the potential to be the biggest accomplishment of my career.  From a business perspective, I believe “RUN” (Raps United Nation”) is a vehicle the industry is desperately lacking.  The way to find new talent is to go get it.  Industry executives no longer believe in the artist, or artist development, how can the industry grow if we don’t allow new artists to showcase their talent?”

First Wave will be released on 2-14-2012!
