Where You At Wednesday : Cast of “Step By Step”

Another classic TGIF show from back in the day was “Step By Step,” it was a modern day “Brady Bunch” if you will, consisting of two families coming together in a household, and the hilarity that ensued.  It ran from 1991-1997 for 7 seasons, though the last one or two seasons were kind of lame if I remember correctly. The real question is “What are these cats up to these days?” Well, as usual, The Monster Blog has the answers for you.

Patrick Duffy as Frank Lambert

Okay, so that picture is clearly not Patrick Duffy today, but it was too baller of a pic to pass up. I mean come on, shirt off, trucker hat, Coors Light….can it get any more 1978 in here? Currently, Duffy is 60 years old. Since “Step By Step,” he’s been in a bunch of made for TV movies, but has also done some pretty cool shit. For example, he was a voice actor for multiple episodes of “Family Guy.” He currently stars on “The Bold & The Beautiful” and was recently a presenter at the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Suzanne Somers as Carol Lambert

Those Thighmasters must work pretty well, because Somers looks good for 63. Everyone knows about her fame prior to “Step By Step,” but what about after? For a few years after the sitcom ended, she hosted “Candid Camera” on CBS.  In the summer of 2005, she made her Broadway debut in “The Blonde in the Thunderbird,” which was a one-woman show. She received a patriotic civilian service award for performing this for military bases and families. In 2001, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2008, she was mis-diagnosed with inoperable cancer, which led to her writing a book about alternative cancer treatments called “Knockout.”

Staci Keanan as Dana

Keanan hasn’t done too much since the sitcom ended. She appeared in two movies, “Stolen Poem” and “Hidden Secrets.” In 2009 she was in “Holyman Undercover.” She also stays active in small theatre roles.

Angela Watson as Karen

Watson played the hot “air-headed” role on the series and did a good job of it. She has had trouble landing roles since the series ended and has even tried to dabble in country music. If you remember in a few episodes, she does sing country pretty well (I think she wins a contest on a Nashville trip or something?). In the year 2000, she started CAST (Child Actors Supporting Themselves), which helps child actors and athletes be smart with and handle their finances. Good cause I think.

Christine Lakin as Al

Sniggity. HELLOOOOO Al Lambert. Somebody grew up, huh? Since “Step By Step,” Lakin has been in several TV movies including Showtime’s “Reefer Madness,” and she was also a regular cast member in 2006 on Nick Cannon’s “Wild N Out.” As recently as 2008, she was in FHM magazine, and also in a movie with Paris Hilton called “The Hottie and the Nottie,” where apparently she played the ugly chick? Interesting…

Christopher Castile as Mark

For some reason, when I see Castile, I think of “Beethoven” and not “Step By Step,” but oh well. Since the sitcom, all he has really done was voice the character of Eugene in Nickelodeon’s “Hey Arnold” cartoon (wow, totally forgot about that show!). It is rumored that he is now a Political Science/History teacher at Biola University in California.

Josh Byrne as Brendan

To be honest, I couldn’t find out anything about this kid nowadays.

Sasha Mitchell as Cody

I seriously thought I remembered something about this guy hanging himself in the late 1990′s, but I guess I made that up. My bad, Sasha. I think I’ve probably told several people that misinformation before. Since the series, he has been in some straight-to-DVD movies as well as made appearances on “JAG,” “NYPD Blue,” and “ER.”

  1. great WUAW!

we didn’t get the disney channel when I was a kid, but my neighbors did, and I would ALWAYS go over there to watch it – and that is how I was exposed to step-by-step.

I always liked the show, but never was a real follower.

    thoughts:

    1) Patrick Duffy is actually holding a Coors original, not light, in the above picture which to me, seals it even more as one for the ages. Hella good find there.

    2) Suzanne Somers – gulp – dare I say it? nah, not gonna … she’s in her friggin 60s … but she looks great. HELLA great.

    3) Staci Keenan – I’m now searching the interweb for pics of her in a bikini. She’s the hottest.

    4) CAST sounds like a fantastic idea. Good work Angela

    5) thanks Monsta. thank you very much. and thank YOU Christine for making my morning … i had an unpleasant experience at a non-existent bagel shop which i drove 15 minutes out of the way to get to not too long ago, and now – I’m not angry anymore.

    6) I find it hilarious that you found a picture of that kid Josh Byrne but not any information and still decided to keep him as an entry on this post. Good humor right there.

    7) I think you told me that rumor about Sasha Mitchell too – or maybe it was someone else – but I remember thinking he had passed in the mid nineties (I thought it was drugs though) … after that incident with his wife. fucking clown dude anyway – in the show AND in real life.

sidenote – that kid his wife was pregant with … imagine being him, and learning when you are at a big enough age to understand what your dad did when you were in the womb. Time to go kick HIS ass and get even.

  3. i def heard the suicide thing as well, and i don’t even think it was from the monster

  4. Al was always my favorite, and I always felt weird because she was kind of the tomboy on the show. But my lord how the young ones outgrow the awkward stages.

    Here’s to childhood fantasies.

  5. Ford- definitely agree, I always liked Al too, and I definitely like her now.
Monsta- I cant believe you remember the details about the country music contest in Nashville, that cracks me up that you can remember that ish. I guess thats what happens when Ma and Pa Monster won’t let the kids get a SNES! That, and a MASSIVE CD collection! HOLLER

    Word.

  8. The Mixtape Monster

    Dang! Good find!!

  9. If you got your facts straight you would have known that his WIFE was the one who was abusing the kids and HE stepped in to protect him. And HE got custody of the children.

  10. The Mixtape Monster

    Hi Mellie

Sounds like your beef is with Wikipedia then. Go edit it. And also, despite findings, my statement about charges being brought isn’t false, regardless of the outcome.

  11. You might want to revise your comments about Sasha Mitchell. He was the victim as he was actually protecting his children from an abusive wife. Of course, the initial reaction of the public and court was to immediately side with the mother and believe only what she said.

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=91741145143

  12. In September of 1995, Mitchell was wrongly arrested due to defending himself against his 25-year-old wife. Entertainment Tonight stated that his arrests for spousal abuse stemmed from trying to protect his kids from their mother’s abuse. He says that his wife was addicted to drugs throughout their marriage and that she abused the children physically, which caused him to intervene. He also claims that his wife then sold the spousal abuse stories to various tabloids. Today, Sasha has full custody of his four children, and his ex-wife is only allowed five supervised visits with the children every year

  13. Sasha was arrested, but not convicted of beating his wife. Apparently she was abusive towards him their kids and when he tried to get sole custody, she turned him in for something that never happened. Something like that, anyway he was the good guy.

  14. Sasha did not beat his pregnant wife and you are a dumbass. How about fact check before you write this stuff.. or at least google his name? Dumbass..

  15. Brett, how about you read the other comments before you post yours, dumbass. Other people have already pointed this out. And again, Mixtape Monster said he was arrested, which he was, albeit wrongly arrested. So that is a fact.

    Dumbass.

  16. OMG!!!! you are all horribly misinformed!!! Sasha was a psychotically abusive man and appeared on several talk shows to discuss the horrific abuse HE reaped on his wife!!! He beat her unconscious on several occasions, stalked her when she tried to leave him and attempted to kill her numerous times in front of their children!!!!!!! He admitted to these things. There are pictures and eyewitness testimony!!!!
YOUR COMMENTS ARE PATHETIC AND ILL INFORMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET A GRIP!!!!!! STOP BLAMING THE VICTIM!!!!!!!!!! THE VICTIM WAS HIS WIFE, NOT HIM!!!!!!!!!!

  17. What About “JT”…Brandon Call? or his friend Ritchie or something like that…Jason Marsden I think?

  18. bırak bu işleri hacı

  19. yaş bu işer bajanak

  20. joooo poď mi !!!!!

  22. Probably not many people noticed it, but there’s a “Step By Step” reunion in theatres right now.

Patrick Duffy, Staci Keanan and Christine Lakin are all in the Kristen Bell/Jamie Lee Curtis/Sigourney Weaver movie “You Again”. And Staci Keanan’s character is named “Dana” in it too!

  23. I think that the person that you’re thinking of that hung themselves was Jonathan Brandis.

  24. Karen Foster( Angela Watson) performed at a country bar at Disney’s Pleasure Island with Alicia ‘Al’ Lambert(Christine Lakin) and Dana Foster(Staci Keanan) as backup vocals during the two Disney episodes. How did you forget about JT?

  25. Well TAMMI, how come Sasha Mitchell has full costudy of his children and his ex-wife is only allowed to see them a few times a year, if he is the one who abused her?

  26. Tammi I do not think Sasha Mitchell ever admitted to trying to kill his wife. He did appear on one talk show and did say he was entering anger management. It came out sometime later he went along with his wife’s lies for reasons unknown to most people. It is well documented that his children live with him and his wife has some mental health issues. Unlikely he would be given custody if he publicly announced he tried to murder his wife in front of his children.

And yes, this mixtapemonster is technically correct in that he was arrested, but he might have done a 10 second google search before condemning the guy.

Agree with Crystal you were probably thinking of Jonathan Brandis regarding a 90s teen star hanging himself.

  27. Any chance you were thinking about Johnathan Brandis? He hung himself in 99 or 00 I believe.

  28. It’s not true about Sasha and his first wife. It turns out that he was protecting their 4 kids from her abusive, drug induced behavior. He has custody of the kids and she only gets to see them (supervised) 5 times per year, which tells me that this is true. if he was abusive, he never would have gotten the kids.

  29. Josh Byrne’s other television credits include Who’s The Boss? and Family Man. In the 1992 feature film Mr. Saturday Night, he portrayed the younger version of Billy Crystal’s character with his then-future Step-By-Step co-star Jason Marsden who also played Crystal’s character as a teenager.
