Where You At Wednesday : Starting QB’s for The Carolina Panthers

As most of you know, The Mixtape Monster is a NC resident and a born-and-raised NC representer. However, he is also a Minnesota Vikings fan first, and Carolina Panthers fan second. As you can imagine, I’m surrounded by Panthers fans everywhere. I don’t mind them, they are fine, and not too douchey. They often think their team is better than they actually are, but that’s about it.

In light of Jake Delhomme’s recent struggles, I thought Panthers fans especially, and everyone might be a little interested in their past QB’s and what they are up to these days.

Kerry Collins (38 games between 1995-1997)

The first player ever chosen by the Panthers in the annual college draft. In his second season, he led the Panthers to the NFC Championship game. Currently, you can find Collins under center for the Tennessee Titans. Last year, he led them to 13-3 record.

Frank Reich (3 games, 1995)

More known for his time with the Buffalo Bills, Reich did play for the Panthers for a year, even starting 3 games. He is a religious man and currently a motivational speaker utilizing great comebacks and the importance of God. He has received a seminary degree and a Master of Divinity. He is also co-owner of Jim and Chuck’s Boot Shop, which has expanded to 15 stores in the New England area and is also partly owned by his good friend and former QB Boomer Esiason.

Steve Beuerlein (51 Games from 1996-2000)

The second most starts for any Panthers QB in history behind Delhomme. In 1999 he was second in the NFL with 39 TD passes. In 2004 he became an analyst for The NFL on CBS. However, in 2007 he made a comment that got caught on air he got some heat for. After offsetting personal fouls by Marvin White and LenDale White in a game, Stevie B could be heard saying “USC thugs, man” on air. He explained it off as a joke, and blaming the Notre Dame (he is an alum) -USC rivalry as the cause.

Chris Weinke (19 games, 2001-2002, 2006)

weinke

In 2001, when the Panthers went 1-15, Weinke was the starter. He was pretty much a backup for the rest of his career. He was signed to San Francisco for a brief period in 2007, and is currently listed as an active “free agent”. Weinke is 37 years old.

Matt Lytle (1 game, 2001)

In his only NFL start ever, Lytle faced the Rams and went 15-26 with 126 yards and a TD….but it was a 48-14 loss. In 2003, he failed to earn a job with the AFL’s Colorado Crush. No word on what he has going on now.

Rodney Peete (15 games, 2002-2003)

rodneypeete

Peete was a solid QB in the league for years, and a stand up guy. He also has a super hot wife (Holly Robinson Peete…you may know her from “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper”). He spent his last years in the league with the Panthers. You can find him now as one of the hosts on “The Best Damn Sports Show Period.”

Randy Fasani (1 game, 2002)

The Stanford player was drafted by the Panthers in 2002. Though he started only 1 game, he played in 4. In those 4 games he was 15-44 for 171 yards, 0 TD’s and 4 INT’s. The following 2 years he went on to play backup for the Bills and Jets, but never got any burn again. As of 2008, he is a police officer in Roseville, CA.

Vinny Testaverde (6 games, 2007)

With Delhomme out with an elbow injury, the Panthers called on solid staple QB Vinny Testaverde to lead them in 6 games. He became the second oldest starting QB, at 44 years old. He retired after the 2007 season and has presumably been enjoying his retirement.

David Carr (4 games, 2007)

Suffering a back injury in the 5th game of the 2007 season, Carr saw limited action in his time as a Panther. This was also due in part to his poor performances. He is currently a backup QB with the New York Giants.

Matt Moore (3 games, 2007)

mattmoore

The Oregon State product was NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month in December 2007. Currently still a backup for the Panthers.
