Five For Friday – Ridiculous Rap Chains

For this week’s Five For Friday, I have chosen to highlight some of the ridiculous jewlrey and chains that you sometimes see in hip hop/rap. Below I will provide you with 5 chains that I think are ridiculous, yet hot, as well as a couple others that are just ridiculous and dumb. Be sure to let us know what YOU think!

RIDICULOUS YET HOT CHAINS

NORE (in his pudgier days) above with his Newport Cigarette’s chain. It actually says “NOREPORT” on it and yes, folks, it does OPEN so he can store his bogeys/loosies/whatever you wanna call them inside. Gangster AND Practical. This makes the “hot” list for sure.

Petey Pablo (North Carolinaaaaaaaa!!!!!! haha, had to do it. Hate if you want, he did put NC on the map, regardless of how…) above with his chain of THE BRAIN from Pinky and the Brain. I decided this fit into the “ridiculous and hot” category for a couple of reasons. For one, how in the world do you come up with this?! For two, The Brain is all about taking over the world, and is a good mindset to have as a musician. See, it fits on so many levels. Geez Petey, you’re so intellectual.

Ghostface, above, has so many ridiculous chains, it would be hard to pick one. The gold eagle bird thing that he rocks is just incredible. How he thought of that, I have no idea. Heard a rumor he was getting that melted down and reshaped into something else, but don’t know how legit that is. Check out the chain though. Not even sure what it is, but it’s the biggest “medallion” I’ve ever seen, and it hangs down to his dick…AND he rocks it with a velour bathrobe. How this couldn’t fit into the “ridiculous and hot” category is way beyond me.

Above we see Cam’ron rocking his “THE WORLD IS YOURS” chain. Modeled after the “Scarface” poster, etc, that thing is swinging like a basketball on his neck. Wowzers.

NAS above with an Egyptian/African type dookie rope. Not something I would personally rock, but unique and old school at the same time so he gets the nod.

RIDICULOUS YET CLOWN, CHAIN FAILS

Gucci Mane, with his ridiculous Bart Simpson chain above. This fails for a couple of reasons. For one, it isn’t even a black Bart Simpson. Come on dude, they make black diamonds! For another, this guy’s biggest hit is “Icy” where he brags about his chain hanging down to his dick. This shit doesn’t even reach his bellybutton. Third…what does Bart Simpson have to do with anything?! Are you just “mischevious”?? FAIL.

Rick Ross, above, with the chain of himself. Self explanatory FAIL.

Lil Jon, above. NEWS FLASH BUDDY….it was never alive. FAIL.

Yung Joc, above, with his Hustlenomics chain. Industry Rule #7532 – Never cop a chain to promote an album that costs more than the number of units said album sold. FAIL.

Yung Berg (top picture above) with his Transformers chain. Cool idea, except for I heard a rumor it was fake. Plus, he got jacked for it, then dude posted a picture on the Internet of him rocking the stolen chain. FAIL.

Shouts to Dikembe

If you haven’t heard, the oldest player in the NBA and 20-year-vet Dikembe Mutombo had a career ending knee injury the other night in the playoffs against Portland. The big man went out on the type of  defensive play that we all remember him for, trying to make a block. He is currently number 2 on the all time blocks list. I’ve never been a huge fan of Dikembe, but I recognize his talent, and more importantly, the fact that he is an ambassador for the league and a great man off the court. Never had a bad thing to say about anybody. The meanest thing he’d ever do is wag that trademark finger at you after throwing your shit into the 3rd row. I’d do that too if I had those blocking skills.

This Week’s CLOWN OR REGULAR DUDE!

This is a toughie this week people. The guy above has made a video about douchebag dudes, and is “pretending” to be one. The question is, how much do we believe is pretend?

I will admit, I did laugh out loud at “Nah, she’s the sweet piece of ass that works at Applebee’s,” but the rest of it just wasn’t that funny.

He’s trying to bring back that old school type gangster rap, which I think we can all agree is better than the new school gangster rap (even if it is still gangster rap).
