Come on, buddy. If you’re going to drop something like that on national TV, you gotta COMMIT to it!! Even if you had, it woulda made the choice harder for me, but it still woulda been the same outcome.
The Monster’s Verdict: CLOWN. That’s never a good look on TV, especially when rooting for your team.

The above commercial is from 1987. I barely remember these commercials and this campaign.
In the late 1980’s Domino’s Pizza ran a campaign called “Avoid the Noid”. These ads featured a character known as “The Noid,” who destroyed pizzas, and thus, had to be avoided. The Noid was created in 1986 and went on for several years to be a part of Domino’s advertising campaign. They even released a computer game in 1989 for DOS (if you even remember that) called “Avoid the Noid” to also help promote the campaign.
Looking back on this campaign, it has to be one of the stupiest things of all time, which is why it was so successful in the 1980’s (a proven technique of the 80’s is to make something like music, fashion, commercials, etc as bad as possible, and people will go fucking nuts about how good it is). No one really gets what this “Noid” thing is, or why it’s even called a “noid”. And am I really supposed to be THAT concerned about my pizza? Maybe if instead of the 30 minute guarantee (or in addition to it), Domino’s offered me my money back if the Noid destroyed my pizza, I’d feel a little better about it.
No word on why the Noid campaign faded, or what that red creature is up to today (he could still be stuck in the parallel universe of his NES game “Yo Noid!”). However, I did find this interesting information on wikipedia:
“In 1989, Kenneth Lamar Noid, a mentally ill customer who thought the ads were a personal attack on him, held two employees of an Atlanta, Georgia Domino’s restaurant hostage for over five hours. After forcing them to make him a pizza and making demands for $100,000, getaway transportation, and a copy of The Widow’s Son, Noid surrendered to the police.[1] Noid was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, extortion, and possession of a firearm during a crime. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity.”
Now that’s one Noid you might actually want to avoid.
Until next time,
The Mixtape Monster

Via Monster Blog favorite TheGoodLook.net (peep it!!) and our good friend Sum. Here’s what Sum had to say about this dope vid:
I always say this is a great time in music, because everything’s wrong. It’s forcing truly creative people and artists to get their weight up and use more than a corner of their brains to make things happen.
My man X-ro has executed this concept beautifully with his video-journalistic mixtape series “X-RoVisions”, which chronicles not only the independent movement in Los Angeles (I even make a few appearances in there), but it’s all soundtracked by his music. Here, we can not only vibe out to his hypnotic music, but also get informed along the way, and maybe pick up on some other artists we may have not known about before. That’s a Good Look. Speaking of which, I’m a little jealous that he kind of beat me to the punch with the video journalism thing, because that’s EXACTLY where the Good Look Monthly Newsletter is going next (nudge, hint). Great minds think alike…
For those who don’t know, X-Ro, (or “Ro” as we call him), is the founder of The VJC, my music fraternity…and he is also a member of The Milky Way, The VJC’s new band.
So pull up a chair and take your time with this one, it’s about 20 minutes long..take it in chunks if you need to, but take it all in. There are some dope jewels in there, including some videos from one of my favorite artists, Two B.

My man Drew Diggy (not his official nickname, but I don’t think he has one…..yet) donated a super funny site that you guys all have to check out. It’s called PICK THE PERP and it shows you lineups of mugshots and a crime, and you pick the perp out of the lineup. See how many you can get right! It’s harder than you think.
Via TheSmokingGun.com, here are a couple good celeb mugshots:

(Above: Mike Nifong, dude who tried to railroad the Dook Lacrosse Team)

(Above: Wrestler Booker T of Harlem Heat….before the fame….in 1987 after being arrested for robbing a couple of Wendy’s restuarants. He was a Wendy’s employee at the time).

(Above: No, that’s not Monster Blog favorite Gary Busey, it’s actually Nick Nolte, representing perhaps the greatest mug shot of all time)
